BREAKING THE CODE: a directing workshop with Dean Paul Gibson.

Saturday May 28th 10:00am to 3:00pm (or so) with one hour lunch break.

Great for directors and those interested on the craft of directing.

In one day, over two, two-hour sessions, one theoretical, one practical, Dean Paul Gibson, one of BCs most in-demand directors will take participants through the tricky business of how directors and actors  work together on the first ’round the table’ explorations aimed at getting to the heart of seeing a play from page to performance.  During the afternoon session, Dean will coach directors as they take actor participants through those first vital ‘table talks’.

Who is Dean Paul Gibson?

Dean’s extensive directing credits include Habib’s Unforgettable’, Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike (RMTC/Mirvish) One Man, Two Guvnors (Theatre Calgary) Spamalot, She Stoops to Conquer, Xanadu, The 39 Steps, Black Comedy, The History Boys, It’s A Wonderful Life, The School for Scandal and A Flea in Her Ear (Arts Club), A Midsummer Night’s Dream, King John, Much Ado About Nothing, Othello, Romeo and Juliet, Hamlet, and many more (Bard on the Beach) One Man, Two Guvnors,7 Stories, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee (Theatre Calgary),Toronto, Mississippi, True West, No Great Mischief, and Noises Off (The Playhouse), The Boyfriend (Studio 58), Lend Me a Tenor, Good Night Desdemona–Good Morning Juliet (Gateway Theatre).

Dean’s selected acting credits include: Earl of Warwick in Saint Joan for Arts Club, Andrew Undershaft in Major Barbara for A.C.T/TC co-production. He also performed the role of the Bartender in Tosca Cafe another A.C.T/ TC co-pro, Patrick Flanagan in Jitters at the Belfry,  Falstaff and Cymbeline for Bard on the Beach. Other select acting credits include Vigil and The Drowsy Chaperone for Theatre Calgary,,, Little Mercy’s First Murder and The Family Way for Touchstone Theatre, the Ruby Slippers Theatre and Pi Theatre coproduction of Shopping and Fucking, originated the role of the Tailor in The Overcoat at Vancouver Playhouse, where he also performed in Romeo and Juliet, The Dead Reckoning, The Music Man, The Rise and Fall of Little Voice, Stones in His Pockets (remounted at the Belfry Theatre), Humble Boy (also at Tarragon Theatre and the National Arts Centre), and A Christmas Carol. Green Thumb Theatre’s award-winning production of Problem Child.

Dean has made numerous film and television appearances and is a graduate of Studio 58.
